Can the conversion of Saul to the Apostle Paul be explained psychologically rather than supernaturally?

I'm trying to understand that if nothing supernatural happened to Saul, who persecuted Christians, to a lead figure in Christianity who was flogged, beaten, whipped, stoned, imprisoned several times, and crucified for his conversion... if there is ANY explanation that might have happened supernaturally that went on with him psychologically. Anyone know?
