Take the Judeo-Christian creation myth, for instance. If we had not known where everything came from and someone came up with that out of the blue, we might call him a fraud, or worse, insane. Skip ahead 2500 years, and you have around a third of all the people in the most powerful country in the world say that they believe in such a story. Hopefully the same thing won't happen with Scientology in another thousand years.
